lean /// to is...

a design and art practice based on temporary inhabitation (this could just as often be a conceptual space as it could be a physical one). Lean /// to is the idea that we must move with agility across the fields of art and design, in effort to seek out genuine spaces for making that are suspended between otherwise disparate points. Lean /// to is a bottom up approach that concerns itself with the significance of place. Lean /// to is a metaphor for inhabitation, improvised shelter, and the idea that one must start with existing circumstances. Lean /// to is most of all an adventure in pursuing all of the things that inspire us.

lean /// to what...

We organize workshops in plein air, inhabiting outdoor spaces for relatively short amounts of time. The site is generally used as a point of departure, whether it is conceptual, specific to a resource or material, a mode of production or a craft - we learn and think from multiple perspectives, sometimes together and sometimes apart, to make and to fabricate solutions for questions that may not even exist. We also make things, whether they are self initiated or commissioned.
